The Mayde Creek High School Color Guard / Winter Guard is recognized acoss the state as an award winning group. During the fall season, the Color Guard travels and performs with the Mighty Ram Marching Band during halftime and at contests. The Color Guard is a non-musical section and provides the visual aspect of the performance, interpreting the music played by the band. The Color Guard teaches movement to music incorporating flags, dance, rifles, sabers, costumes and props.

The Color Guard also performs without the marching band. At the end of the marching season, Color Guard members prepare for their own indoor competitive season called Winter Guard. These highly skilled members develop skills by performing to recorded music, utilizing flags, dance, rifles, sabers, costumes and props. In addition to the equipment-handling skills, members learn advanced movements, dance, and drama.

Members need to request the 7th period Color Guard class. They earn P.E. credit for the fall semester and Fine Arts credit for the spring semester. Over the summer, there is a Guard camp and band camp two weeks before school starts where we learn our routines, fundamentals, and teamwork. If you plan on participating in the Color Guard and/or Winter Guard, be prepared to be flexible in your schedule.
