The percussion program is an integral part of the music program at Mayde Creek.  They are consistently recognized as one of the premier high school percussion ensembles in the State of Texas.  During the fall, the marching drumline travels and performs with the Mighty Ram Marching Band during halftime, at contests and other events.

During marching season, rehearsals are held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 till 6:30 pm.  Members need to request the 7th period Percussion class for the fall semester.  They earn P.E. credit for the fall semester and Fine Arts credit for the spring semester.

At the conclusion of marching season, the Percussion Ensemble prepares for their own competitive season. The members play in a concert band setting, learn the craft of concert percussion performance, develop the skills necessary to perform at a high level, and perfect a show to be performed at contests and concerts. The shows combine music, movement, costumes, and props into a theatrical production.  In addition to performing with concert bands, they compete locally, regionally and at state competitions in the TCGC circuit and WGI circuit against other indoor percussion ensembles.  Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.

Over the summer, there is a percussion camp (usually in July) for the marching drumline (battery and front ensemble) and members also participate in band camp two weeks before school starts.  Camps provide the opportunity to learn fundamentals and teamwork. If you plan on participating in the percussion program, be prepared to be flexible in your schedule.
